The Green Project

Building Material Exchange: This is the place to bring your extra lumber, bricks, doors, sinks, cabinets, fans, etc. They accept these materials, clean and repair them if needed, and provide them at low cost to renovators. The aim is to keep usable items out of the landfill and to play a positive role in the rebuilding of our city.

The Green Project (TGP) is largely known for their building materials warehouse store that diverts usable materials from landfills and puts them back into circulation in the community.  They also teach and encourage good stewardship of the environment by supporting the mindful use of resources.  TGP is located at 2831 Marais Street in New Orleans, LA.

Paint Exchange: They accept old paint (all latex and usable oil-based), recycle it by color and type, repackage it, and sell it inexpensively.

Volunteer Opportunities: Volunteers are needed in all areas of the organization. Volunteers sort paint and building materials, harvest produce, work to assist customers and assist with office tasks such as data entry. Please contact TGP at and they will be happy to talk to you about volunteering.

Hours of Operation: Monday through Saturday 9:00am - 5:00pm.

Location: 2831 Marais Street, New Orleans, LA.  The Green Project is located in the St. Roch neighborhood of New Orleans. The warehouse is located at the corner of Press Street and Marais Street (right at the railroad tracks), one block from St. Claude Avenue.
