DEQ Partners With Habitat for Humanity on America Recycles Day

Employees of the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality partnered with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Baton Rouge Area for America Recycles Day and the Grand Opening of the Habitat for Humanity ReStore at 4301 Airline Hwy. Baton Rouge. While Habitat volunteers welcomed friends and patrons to the new ReStore, DEQ employees talked about the importance of recycling and reducing the volume of waste we generate. Attendees were invited to sign the ARD pledge to recycle and be entered in the national ARD drawings.

The ReStore accepts tax-deductible donations of surplus and quality used building materials and products which are then sold to the public at bargain prices. The proceeds are used by the local Habitat teams to build additional houses.

Patrons enjoyed sodas, hotdogs, construction demonstrations and an opportunity to check out the material for sale. Here some volunteers check a whirlpool tub for leaks before the tub is purchased.

The ReStore will be open Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.

For more information, if you are interested in donating materials, or volunteering at the store, visit their website http://www.habitatbr.org/calendar.cfm or call (225) 355-1895.
