The below list contains the temporary and the permitted landfills in the state that can currently accept hurricane debris (C&D, chipping, grinding, burning, staging, woodwaste).
Hurricane Debris Sites - Temporary & Permitted (sorted by Parish) ***NEW / UPDATED***
Please note, concerning vegetative debris disposal, of the total green and woody debris intended for final disposal in a landfill, 50% shall be reduced by volume and 50% by weight prior to transport to a landfill. This debris may be used in coastal restoration projects, as compost or as fuel. It may not be disposed of in a landfill as the first option, but may be used as a component of the cover system for a landfill or a means for providing erosion control. These landfills include Type I (Non-hazardous Industrial), Type II (Municipal) and Type III (Construction and Demolition Debris and Wood Waste).
For other activities, such as, chipping, burning, grinding, etc, please complete the attached Emergency Debris Management Site Request Form. If the site was previously authorized during Hurricanes Katrina or Rita, it may be considered for Hurricane Gustav debris. Local government officials must verify “no significant changes in surrounding land use and potential receptors….” The site must still comply with the site criteria in the Department’s Comprehensive Plan for Disaster Clean-Up and Debris Management Plan. §505. Standards of Governing Collectors and Off-Site Transporters of Solid Waste
A. Vehicle Requirements
1. The types and sizes of vehicles shall comply with the regulations and licensing of the Department of Transportation and Development and with applicable local ordinances governing weight and size for the streets that must be traveled for solid waste pickup.
2. Cover
a. The bodies of vehicles used to transport trees, tree limbs, construction materials, or metals shall contain such waste without allowing materials to fall or blow off the vehicle.
