"'Tis the season to be jolly," but Louisiana, like the rest of the nation, produces more waste in December than any other month. Planning ahead of time can reduce the amount of trash that goes to the landfills, and reuse can even generate useful items. You can "Be the Solution" and have a more waste-free holiday season by following a few simple tips from the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality.

A sewage treatment system maintenance class is being offered at Nicholls State University
in Thibodaux Tuesday and Thursday, Nov. 3 and 5. Sessions begin at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. The class is free and open to the general public. People with their own sewage treatment system and those interested in learning about protecting Bayou Lafourche and the surrounding area from improperly treated sewage are encouraged to attend.
On Sept. 28, the Water Environment Federation (WEF) announced the first winners of a new national municipal stormwater and green infrastructure awards program. Developed through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the program recognizes high-performing regulated Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) communities and inspires them to exceed requirements through innovative and cost-effective approaches.
