Technical Assistance & Outreach
LDEQ uses various approaches to ensure protection and improvement of the environment through technical assistance, partnership building, and environmental education and outreach. This is accomplished through interactions with the entire community including businesses, municipalities, non-governmental organizations, schools and the public at large. The programs below demonstrate LDEQ’s commitment to its mission of providing service to the people of Louisiana to promote and protect health, safety and welfare.
The Enviroschool program at the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LDEQ) is the public education arm of the Agency that provides training for communities, businesses, and other organizations on a number of regulatory topics. The goal of this program is for the attendees to become informed about the environmental regulatory process and to maintain and improve environmental compliance.
The Louisiana Envirothon is an environmental problem-solving competition for students in grades 6-12. Teams train and compete by demonstrating their knowledge of environmental science and natural resource management. The competition focuses on five natural resource areas: soils and land use, aquatic resources, forestry, wildlife, and a current environmental issue.
Louisiana Environmental Ambassadors Program (LEAP)
The Louisiana Environmental Ambassadors Program (LEAP) internship for college and graduate students was created to provide environmental management experience and insight into government and business operations, environmental science, and other related careers. Interns gain knowledge beyond the classroom, skill development, and the opportunity to explore various career paths and options at LDEQ.
Louisiana Environmental Leadership Program (ELP)
The mission of the Louisiana Environmental Leadership Program is to promote a cleaner and better environment through voluntary pollution prevention, waste reduction, other environmental stewardship efforts and sustainability.
Small Business Environmental Assistance Program
LDEQ's Small Business Environmental Assistance Program (SBEAP) provides environmental regulatory assistance and information to small businesses and communities.
