Asbestos Accreditation

Introduction

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LDEQ) oversees the state’s Asbestos Accreditation Program, which ensures that anyone working with asbestos is properly trained and certified. This program covers several disciplines, including inspection, project design, and removal. Visitors can use this page to find lists of state‑certified professionals, approved training providers, and important forms needed for accreditation and project reporting. Our goal is to help protect public health by making sure asbestos work in Louisiana is done safely and responsibly.

Asbestos Disciplines

Asbestos Worker

An asbestos worker is trained to safely handle, remove, and dispose of materials that may contain asbestos. Their work helps protect the public by preventing dangerous asbestos fibers from being released into the air during construction or demolition activities.

Asbestos Contractor/Supervisor

A contractor supervisor oversees asbestos abatement projects and makes sure all work follows safety rules and state regulations. They guide workers on proper procedures and help ensure that asbestos is removed and handled in a safe, controlled way.

Asbestos Inspector

An asbestos inspector is trained to identify materials that may contain asbestos and collect samples for laboratory testing. Their work helps determine whether a building or project site requires special safety steps before renovation or demolition begins.

Asbestos Management Planner

A management planner reviews asbestos inspection results and develops written plans that outline how asbestos in a building will be managed safely over time. They help schools, businesses, and other facilities decide when asbestos should be removed, repaired, or monitored to protect the people who use the building.

Asbestos Project Designer

Project designers create detailed plans for how asbestos will be removed or managed during a project. They make sure the design follows all safety rules and provides clear steps for workers to complete the job safely and correctly.
To ensure faster service, all Asbestos Accreditation Applications MUST be accompanied with one front face view 1 x 1-1/4" photograph for each discipline requested. Also, a check or money order made out to LDEQ must accompany your application. Please note, LDEQ does not accept cash.

Asbestos Training Provider/Trainer Recognition

Apply for Asbestos Trainer Recognition

The Asbestos Trainer Recognition Form AAC-4 is used when applying to be recognized by Louisiana as an asbestos trainer.

Find Asbestos Training Courses

You may contact the LA Recognized Asbestos Training Providers for information regarding classes for schools and State Buildings Designated Person and Custodial and Maintenance Staff Training. For a current list of asbestos training courses, please contact or see the website info on the LA Recognized Asbestos Training Providers list (below).

For accreditation purposes, training courses holding current approval from the EPA or from a state with an EPA-approved accreditation program are acceptable in Louisiana. However, in addition to these courses, Louisiana requires an additional 2-hour regulations course by a Louisiana recognized training provider. You may refer to the EPA National Directory of AHERA Accredited Courses (NDAAC) for further listings.

Questions about asbestos accreditations and notifications should be directed to the OES Public Participation and Permit Support Division at 225-219-3300.

Recognized Asbestos Landfills

RAL

Landfills must hold specific permits to accept asbestos waste, and only facilities designated as Recognized Asbestos Landfills (RAL) are legally authorized to handle it. These RAL sites follow strict federal and state regulations to ensure asbestos is disposed of safely and in compliance with environmental standards.
