UPCOMING EARTH DAY CELEBRATIONS IN LOUISIANA

Since its inception in 1970, Earth Day has grown into the premier observance for raising environmental awareness across the planet. It began in the United States, and that is where it has become a yearly celebration of progress toward protecting the environment and innovation in technology, science, and law that make that progress possible.

Earth Day has a theme each year. In 2026, the theme is “Our Power, Our Planet.” The event is marked in 180 countries and in cities across the United States on April 22. Here are a few of the events planned on or near April 22 in Louisiana:

BREC’s BioBlitz: Friday and Saturday, April 17 – 18.Activities at Blackwater Conservation Area in Central, including guided hikes, and a sunset paddle.
Love the Boot Week: Events statewide, April 18 – 26. Keep Louisiana Beautiful is spearheading the largest litter removal effort in Louisiana’s history to coincide with Earth Day. Individuals, businesses, and organizations are encouraged to plan and partake in community cleanups in an effort to create a cleaner, more beautiful Louisiana.
Earth Day 2026 at Black Bayou Lake Wildlife Refuge: Beginning at noon on Saturday, April 18, at Black Bayou Lake National Wildlife Refuge, 480 Richland Place Drive, Monroe. Join the Friends of Black Bayou for a special ribbon-cutting celebrating the Conservation Learning Center’s brand-new Snake Room. Guests will have the opportunity to explore this exciting new exhibit and learn more about these fascinating reptiles. The celebration will also include a guided nature walk, offering families a chance to enjoy the beauty of Black Bayou while discovering the plants and wildlife that call the refuge home. Free and open to all ages.
Earth Day 2026 in Lake Charles features community-driven environmental action, including a cleanup, community celebration, and seed exchange. Key events on Saturday, April 18,include “Clean the Block, Paint the Future” at Mary Belle Williams Park and a celebration at Riverside Park, alongside an “Earth Day Extravaganza” with music and crafts in nearby Sulphur. - Clean the Block, Paint the Future: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, April 18. Organized by The Vessel Project of Louisiana, the event begins with a beautification cleanup at Mary Belle Williams Park, 2298 Knapp St., followed by a celebration at Riverside Park, 1701 Fitzenreiter Rd., featuring food, music, and art.
- Earth Day Extravaganza: 1 to 5 p.m., Saturday, April 18. Held by Micah 6:8 Mission at 1401 Argin St., Sulphur, this event includes live music, educational booths, and a community garden blessing.
- Earth Day Seed Exchange: 6 p.m., Wednesday, April 22, at the Calcasieu Parish Public Library Central Branch, 301 W. Claude St., Lake Charles. Attendees can trade seeds and learn gardening tips.
On Saturday, April 18, Alexandria will host joint Earth Day and Clean Alex initiatives for Love the Boot Week. The event includes a city cleanup from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and an Earth Day celebration featuring educational, family-friendly activities at the Alexandria Zoo from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Family Earth Day in Donaldsonville: The free event will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 18, at the Rosenwald School, 511 Williams St., Donaldsonville.
Earth Day 2026 Celebration: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, April 18, at the Bayou Lacombe Museum, 61115 S. St. Mary St., Lacombe. The event features live music, food, local vendors, children’s activities, pet adoptions, and educational “Earth facts.”
Earth Day 2026 — Bayou Vermilion District: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, April 19, in Vermilionville, 300 Fisher Road, Lafayette. Celebrate the planet and learn ways to improve and enhance our life on Earth — come to Bayou Vermilion District’s Earth Day celebration, presented by COX and supported by Ducks Unlimited. Free admission, music by Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys, with a host of activities, crafts, recycling, food, and more.
Clean-up Events — Baton Rouge: 8 a.m., Friday, April 24.Various community locations.
The Love the Earth Day 2026 Celebration: 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, April 24, at the Shreveport Green Urban Farm, 1034 Sprague St., Shreveport. Activities planned are planting, hands-on activities, eco-crafts for kids, fresh food, cooking demos, music, and the reveal of Shreveport Green’s upcoming community mural.
Walls Project Earth Day Baton Rouge: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, April 25, at BREC's Howell Park, 5509 Winbourne Ave. Hosted by The Walls Project, this a free community-driven celebration with volunteering and education at Baton Roots Community Farm, with a focus on sustainability, art, and environmental action. The event features hands-on workshops, volunteer cleanup efforts, and creative projects like recycled art installations. Attendees can connect with local organizations, learn about eco-friendly initiatives, and take part in activities that promote a greener future for Baton Rouge.
Ruston will host a Main Street Makeover for Earth Day/Love the Boot Week from 8:30 to 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 25, at the Historic Fire Station, 200 E. Mississippi Ave. This volunteer cleanup event, in partnership with Keep Louisiana Beautiful, honors America’s 250th birthday.
Sweet Tea & Free Trees — Earth Day Celebration: 2 – 6 p.m., Sunday, April 26, at Pearl River Museum, 39437 LA‑41 Spur, Pearl River. An Earth Day–inspired, sensory celebration for the whole family. Sample a variety of sweet teas from local vendors ($5 for your Souvenir Cup), vote in the Sweet Tea Contest, enjoy hands‑on environmental booths, and take home a free tree while supplies last.
