Texas Oil and Gas Company pleads guilty to felony - December 22, 2015
United States Attorney Kenneth A. Polite, announced that WALTER OIL & GAS COMPANY, a Texas corporation residing in Houston, Texas, pled guilty today to a one-count Bill of Information which charged the company with failing to provide notification to the National Response Center of a hazardous discharge, in violation of Title 33, United States Code, Section 1321(b)(5)(C). This charge relates to WALTER OIL & GAS COMPANY’s oil and gas production in the Grand Isle area of the Gulf of Mexico.

Environmental Crime Investigation Techniques course to be held August 4-7 in Baton Rouge - July 22, 2015
An Environmental Crime Investigation Techniques course will be held on August 4 through 7 at the Belle of Baton Rouge Hotel, 103 France St., Baton Rouge, LA 70802. Registration is from 1 to 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 4, with class concluding at noon on Aug. 7. The course is hosted by the Southern Environmental Enforcement Network and the Criminal Investigation Division of the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality.

Zachary man pleads guilty to illegal dumping of gasoline and diesel fuel - February 12, 2015
A Zachary man was sentenced Wednesday, Feb. 4, in the 18th Judicial District Court for violating Louisiana's Environmental Quality Act. Leon Wallace, 58, of 23291 Plank Road, Zachary, illegally dumped gasoline and diesel fuel behind a Port Allen video poker casino in January 2013.

Orleans Parish Man pleads guilty to illegally dumping waste tires in Algiers - February 04, 2015
An Orleans Parish man pleaded guilty and was sentenced Wednesday, Feb. 4, in the Orleans Parish Criminal District Court for violating Louisiana's Environmental Quality Act. Michele A. Morris, 54, of Algiers, illegally dumped solid waste near 178 Woodland Parkway in Algiers in January 2013.

Governor proclaims May as Air Quality Awareness Month - May 01, 2014
Gov. Bobby Jindal has declared May as Air Quality Awareness Month in Louisiana. May is traditionally the start of ozone season and the proclamation was made to encourage citizens to become familiar with the Air Quality Index, to understand what causes ozone formation and to take voluntary steps to help prevent ozone formation and improve air quality.

Today, the Department of Environmental Quality issued an administrative order requiring a Shreveport landfill owned by Harrelson Material Management, Inc. to cease receiving and disposing of new material, which is believed to be causing fire and smoke issues at the landfill site. DEQ issued the order out of an abundance of caution and is currently testing environmental conditions at the site and monitoring the air in the area.

2014 Louisiana Envirothon held at LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens - April 01, 2014
The 2014 Louisiana Envirothon was held at the Botanic Gardens of the LSU AgCenter. Eight teams from around the state participated in the environmental problem-solving competition for students in grades 6 -12. Teams trained and competed by demonstrating their knowledge of environmental science and natural resource management. The competition focuses on five natural resource areas: soils and land use, aquatic resources, forestry, wildlife, and a current environmental issue. The 2014 current environmental issue was Sustainable Local Agriculture/Locally Grown. Teams also presented a solution to an environmental problem related to the current issue through an oral presentation.
